Spirit of Popeye
Updated: May 10, 2018
People always have a different reasons to participate in the Great Endeavour Rally and the 'Spirit of Popeye' with Des Armitage and Moss Lane has a special story behind it. The Fairlane was originally purchased to do the 2011 Rally with Des's son David. David was then diagnosed with terminal cancer and the car was parked up. After he passed in July 2013 Des decided to run the car in his memory. So with old mate Moss Lane Des rebuilt it in time for the 2014 Qld Rally. Moss could not come along so Andy Hickson came along for the ride. Des and Moss then did the NSW Rally to the Flinders Ranges and been in each rally since. ( Please whatever you do don't mention the Super Endeavour we think they might all still be in therapy ) The Fairlane's Rally number is 921 which was Des's son David's racing number and the car name Spirit of Popeye is in David's memeory as Popeye was his nickname .
